One more project done! Update w/photos

Well I will have pictures later, but finished adding some real backup lights to the 5er last night. :B

This rig didn't have as part of the stock light setup.
The biggest challenge (or so I thought) would be getting the wire up to the pin box. That turned out to be easy peasy! I simply tugged on a couple of the existing wires and found that they moved easily between the pin box and the front compartment. Cut one at the pin box, tied a replacement wire and the new wire to it and pulled both in with no issues.
Installed a relay in the front compartment so as not to over load the backup light circuit on the TV.
Now arriving late with not be an issue!! Plenty of light to see where I am backing up into.

Well finally got the pictures. Looks like I need to wash it after the last trip.

  • I've been thinking about adding lights as well since we've been arriving at campgrounds late on Fridays. What lights did you use? I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.
  • When I added back up lights to my Carriage I found that a yellow wire at the tail lights was already wired to the RV plug so all I had to do was install the lights.

This is the set I bought from Auto Zone. As I use a fence post for the Stinky Slinky no issues with mounting on top of the rear bumper.

  • That's a great Mod! When ordering our MS that is one thing I insisted on but DRV would not do it. They did run the wires back to the lower two indentions. Slade a Rolling Retreats installed the backup lights. They are really BRIGHT!!! Before and after pics.

  • I also added back up lights under my rear bumper that are wired to work (with a relay) when I back up. I also added lights on each side of the 5th (in front of wheels) that are turned on by a switch. This set up gives me better lighting and also keeps some lighting on if I have to maneuver back and forth so I can see where the trailer is at all times.
