"Interesting that Amsoil recommends 75/110."
The grabbing is a breakdown of the gear lube as seen in my Blackstone report. Could be why AMZ/OIL recommends the 75/110 over the 75/90.
I suspected breakdown of the lube was the reason for that issue. I`m sure the Amsoil will do much better even in the 75/90 but time will tell I guess. Did you post your Blackstone report? I would be interested in seeing it.
Yes but since you are such a nice guy here it is!
This is the original fluid with 24K+ miles. Seems most are experiencing "grabbing" at the 20K mark as I was.
Thanks very much, that's quite interesting.
I agree that the elevated metals are due to break in and the bigger issue is the breakdown of the oil. Mine started the grabbing at about 20k kms.
Have you towed with your truck since changing the fluid?
I am planning to do a shake down pull soon but it won't be long enough to really heat things up. Won't be seriously losing until next month, will report then. - blofgrenExplorer

^Hard to believe so many pay msrp at a local dealer.
I haven't shopped there yet but I know that places like Dillon, Dave Smith and that place in Indy are the real deal price wise.
Plus I think most people selling almost new big expensive trucks are the paid msrp, financed to the hilt,no down payment, cantaffordit, thousands in bling before the first oil change, 5k in tax rolled into the loan and still owe msrp or more after a year.
Then they think they're giving away their used truck at $49999 and looking for someone else to finance their bad decision.
I think you're exactly right.
Saying that, "good" used diesel trucks in good condition sell for a premium around here. Before I bought my truck I had my sights on a 2007 Ram 3500 DRW 4x4 Laramie, 5.9L, G56 with 60k miles. It was in great shape with a ton of extras and the dealer would not drop below $39,500 Cdn. I just couldn`t see spending that much on a truck of that age so I passed, but it sold a week later!
Shouldn't there be a lot of newer used rigs for sale in western Canada with the oil patch so slow now? I've been looking but don't see a lot and what's out there is still comparable in USD even with the exchange.
What's the big websites for private party sales? Craigslist in the Alberta cities doesn't have squat and kiiji seems like mostly dealer, not a lot of private party.
I was truck shopping in the spring of 2014 when the oil patch was still going strong. It certainly is a different scenario now, with a lot of gear for sale in Alberta and BC. Kijiji is by far the biggest classified site for Alberta and although dealers have a lot of stuff posted there is still a lot of private sellers. Craigslist is very popular here in the greater Vancouver, BC area (likely because we are so close to the US) but it isn`t popular in Alberta at all. Americans can definitely do well buying here right now with a 30% advantage on the exchange rate. - pyoung47ExplorerYou can buy a brand new Tradesman for that money. 0 miles.

You're looking in the wrong area for used oil company trucks. The used ones in Calgary and northeastern BC were probably snapped up by the tar sands companies in Fort McMurray whose trucks were burned up in the fire.

Try Texas trucks for just the 2010-2015 used trucks for sale in the area around San Antonio, Texas, the nearest big city to the Easterwood Shale oil/gas boom/bust. There are 1700 pickups from just those 6 years for sale on that website and 440 of them are diesel. Then search for trucks in Houston to find even more of those used oilfield pickups. They are out there but you have to go to Texas and Oklahoma to find them because that's where the exploration and production companies are based.
Here's an example of what is available in Texas and is very likely an oilfield truck because a manual transmission and 4WD is an almost sure sign of a fleet truck in Texas (not to mention that 90% of the oilfield trucks are white!):
