Questions about replacing locks

I want to replace my locks because of all the stories that everyone shares keys.

Suggestions?

Tubular locks?

Any brand of regular key locks that are not cookie cutter key templates?

Anything useful to reinforce the storage locks and door lock?

  • Any suggestions for replacing my main door handle/deadbolt? The deadbolt works fine, but the regular lock will not turn with the key.

Is there really a difference between the $40 locks and the $100 locks?
  • It has never concerned me, thieves use a screwdriver or pry bar, not a key. The flimsy baggage doors and frames will pop right open with a large screwdriver.

Where you parked at wolf? Whatcha got in them storage bins? They are so flimsy that anyone with a screwdriver can get in lock or no lock. Why bother?

Thats my thoughts. I just today bought thumb locks for all my compartment doors. Who wants go steal my stinky slinky anyhow. Its a PIA having to go get the keys from inside to open them

This past weekend while looking at new travel trailers, many of the doors and storage compartments were locked and the salesman didn't have his key with him. After encountering 2 or 3 locked items that I wanted to look at I asked if my key would fit. The salesman responded probably. And my keys did fit all the door locks and storage compartment locks that I tried. I probably used my keys to unlock 20-25 locks.

usually deadbolts are not a common key

  • While many of the storage bay locks and even entry door spring locks share common keys, most deadbolt locks are individual or unique. If you are concerned, just replace the dead bolt lock pin cylinder with another cylinder from a hardware store, or you can replace the whole thing. They are not that expensive.

As for storage bay doors, I don't know of anyone that has re-keyed them, although if you are willing to spend the money, I'm sure a locksmith can do that for you. I've not heard of anyone having issues with unauthorized unlocking of a storage bay.
