While the main point of this post is correct, this part is incorrect. The purpose of these fans on the top fins is to condense ammonia vapor in to liquid. The top condenser fins really do not have any heat from the box, this heat is rejected in the lower absorber coils. Basically, the more liquid ammonia you make, the more cooling you get. In terms of operation, the top limit temps are pretty close to being the same for absorption and compressor type, it's just the absorption models are working in harsher environments.
