I think a good flushing and sanitation might be in order (with the filter bypassed). Then an inexpensive pre-filter might solve the long term problem.
$38 is not a bad price for a GOOD water filter.
Interesting, I thought $38 is outragious for a filter. You can buy good 5 micron filters and 5 micron charcol filters for less than $10 for your home. I would replace the filter and the housing and shop on line for some good inexpensive filters.
