The trick is to know what the power hogs are. Before using the inverter - the water heater, the microwave, the fridge & the air is turned off at circuit breaker ....
The switching off is part of the setting up for dry camping routine.
x2.
Unless they carry an evil little smelly machine whose name shall not be spoken.
LP fridge can be left On. Electronic circuits of a typical LP fridge draw 10-15 AH in 24 hrs. Lights, fans, water pumps and laptop/radio will draw 2-3 times as much, even for a minimalist. So, with 115 Ah of usable energy they will be able to camp for 2-3 days without any means of charging.
Furnace can be replaced with a catalytic heater (I'm doing it this year).
Everything else falls into category of power hogs.
Solar expands the possibilities though. They don't tell how big solar, or where/when they will camp. This could make MW and furnace possible, but not a roof A/C. I couldn't sleep with furnace anyway, would rather get a warm sleeping bag than wake up every 30 minutes when it kicks in.
