Suggestions on wireless camera

20 ft plus pull behind unit Salem ultra light, Would like ideas on this type of camera ,
A unit that would show me the road an traffic following me,

Aid in backing up
See emergency equipment coming up on me.
Trash or debris on the roadway which may be off my unit

Really don't want to have to hardware But will. Any suggestions. Thanks
  • This is what your mirrors are for. Further, reliance on a camera means your attention is on a screen not on the road and the mirrors where it belongs. It may also change or alter the proper habit of scanning your mirrors. Lastly the "depth perception" of a camera, especially the tiny ones used in autos is terrible and leaves you with a truly distorted view.

And it definitely wont help when backing.
  • I would opt for a direct wired installation (and I am...). The wireless products seem to have issues with delivering the signal in some cases. The wiring only needs to be done once and I'm at the tongue hooking everything up, anyways. An additional connector isn't going to ruin my day.
  • sam's sells a nifty but $$ dash camera that also has a rear view camera. might be handy.

  • If a person has proper mirrors and scans them as they should there is no need for rear view cameras. Was an accident-free trucker for 20 years and over 3 million miles and never felt the need.

I just put the Furrion camera on my trailer. It was prewired for it so install was super easy. I need to switch some wires around right now because it only works in reverse and I got the one that shows video in motion. Camera is very clear and the little I have used it it seems to work well. More expensive than some but I don't have to fight it to get it to work

Most are designed to only operate in reverse so as not to distract the driver. Besides. While driving down the road. What is right behind you is not important. Only what is coming up beside you.

  • I am in the middle of learning this the HARD way!!! LOL

We had a Furrion wireless camera and monitor setup with our Grey Wolf toy hauler, left it on there when we traded it in on the Puma. The Furrion setup is 350.00 -450.00 depending on where you buy it. My tight (dumb)azz bought a wireless WIFI setup that would utilize my I-phone 6 for the monitor. The wifi signal is NOT strong enough to stay connected to my phone with my phone in the truck.................... Save your time and money and buy a Furrion setup when you are ready. Takes about 15 minutes to install and it IS worth the money IMO.
