tank rinse install gone bad

I purchased the tornado tank rinser and started the install process. The supplied hose isn't long enough to reach the far side of my tank so i mounted it on the side. I had to drop the support bar and then after cutting the hole and installing it, I discovered the support bar is in the way of the rinser. To make it work, I would either cut and weld an additional support to the support bar, remove the rinser and repair the hole (find another installation point), or plug the rinser and forget the whole thing. What would you do?

The tank is abs plastic. The plasti-mend will work great from the reviews I am reading. I'll try that out and see.
Plastimend will make a permanent fix. Have used it and give it top rating.

However I would be tempted to just make a disk and silicone/screw to the tank side similar to the way the tornado is mounted. You can go plastimend later if it leaks.

x2. dip screws in silicone too before installing the plate over the hole. For another added means of ensuring no leak, cover the patch with eternabond tape

I have had 2 Tornado flusher in my coach and both have failed in short order. I would recommend you return it if you can and install one of the non-moving flush units. If that's not an option, I still would not install that unit in your tank, buy a good flusher and find a better location if the new one won't fit. There are 2 trains of thought on the proper location. The first is that is should be near the tank outlet to ensure nothing builds up there that would prevent a proper dump and the second is a location that would hit the tank sensors to help keep them as accurate as possible. If you could find a location that would handle both tasks, that would be the ideal location.
Sorry to hear about your problems. Be sure to let us know what you do.

I would say yes to the above quote.

  • I would be very careful what you do to patch the hole especially with all the weight and force of water inside the tank. Not much sticks to polyethylene and for a hole like that I would suggest a mechanical type repair using some sort of plug, rubber washers and threaded connection. Some info: How to repair poly Something like this might be an alternative but still think going with a mechanical patch is best: tank repair kit
  • Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to order some Plastic-Mend and cover the hole and move the rinser. Got to love kicking yourself on easy projects that you screw up...
  • Plug the hole and install in the initial preferred space.
Get a longer hose as needed. Actually that hose/clamp is a bit weak... I would replace the hose with a real plumbing connection.
