Ultra Heat Cable installed on water tank outflow tube

Here is my blog post discussing the hows and whys -- it's pretty long, so I did not want to repeat it all on the forum:

Installation project

Bottom line -- the installation went well, and the product seems to work as advertised.

And here is a link to the product itself:

Ultra Heat Cable

Next big project will be to finish insulating and enclosing the underbelly, but this heat cable is a good start.

  • I did not put a fuse in the wire -- I probably could have/should have, but this is a very low amperage application. When it is connected, it just draws 2 amps directly from the battery.
  • Very cool! Does the direct to battery hookup need to be fused or is there one inline in the wire?
  • I made a recirculating system by running a hose from a hot water line under a sink to a vent line into the tank. Using a multi-turn valve to meter the flow the system can heat the tank and plumbing at all times.
  • Yikes.... the font was so small on your blog, I gave up on reading it after the first sentence. Tip: make the font bigger. That looks like about a 8 or 9 font size
  • Looks good - I need to get some of that for my truck bed water tank and pump.
