Apr 07, 2017On two RVs I elected to replace the factory pump during the first year. The noise created by the stock pump was intolerable. The first one was replaced with a Flo-Jet variable speed pump that was virtually silent and provided a steady flow with all faucet settings. The second one was a Shurflo variable speed. Not as quiet as the Flo-jet, but so much better than the base model pump. Both those replacement pumps have been superseded by newer designs. Assuming that a rebuild kit won't extend the life of the existing pump and you use it often, I would recommend going with a premium pump; it is worth the extra expense. I often wonder why RV manufacturers don't put a better pump in at the factory. I believe most people would pay a little more and it would translate into higher customer satisfaction. We were camping in Yellowstone and a neighbor who was tent camping asked us not to try starting the generator. I told him that we did not have a generator in our RoadTrek, the noise was from flushing the toilet. Yeah, the water hammer and the pump vibration was that bad. The Flo-Jet was installed when we got home.
