Wireing for added tailights

I am adding a generator/storage box to the back of my RV and want to add tail lights to it. I am at the point that I need to add the left light today and am not sure on proper wiring. I don't want to spend 2 hours experimenting with it!

I have a 4 prong flat plug on the rear of the RV which is functioning and is properly wired according to with I can find on the net.

My new lights have 5 wires and I am unsure how to go about this and cannot find a schematic on the net to follow. So instructions or a link would be greatly appreciated.

1. Black wire on tailight is ground
2. White is backup light. I do not need it and will not use.
3. Green wire is red in tailight.
4. Red wire is stoplight
5. Yellow is turn signal

Any input is greatly appreciated. Jim[img][/img] Edit, image is not showing?

I have tried 2 different URL's and cannot get the image to post. It is a picture of a tailight with 5 wires!

Before you spend alot of monies BE SURE your tail lights meet the requirement of US DOT. In my State of Virginia the TAIL LIGHTS must have an approved DOT number stamped into the lens visible for DOT STATE INSPECTION folks..

I have done a couple of these on my JEEP and had to take them off in front of the SAFETY INSPECTOR before they would pass my inspection...

Here in Virginia we also have required yearly RV TRAILER Safety Inspections...

  • If you are going off the 4 wire trailer plug you will only use the black/ground, green/tail and red/stop.
the red will go to the left and right turn signal wires on the connector as the 4 pin uses turn signal as turn and brake

the orange and white light portions will not be used unless you wire to a 7 pin connector
