Wiring a bad RV Plug

Hello Guys,

Kinda new at the whole wiring thing here but I thought I would give it a shot. My neighbor who's cord was damaged last year needs to change out the plug on her 30A Cord for her RV. We've been told by a Sales rep at a website that we needed this plug:

TT-30P RV Replacement Plug

We'll be plugging it into the power receptacle at the camp, and it looks just like this. Is this the typical male side you see at the campsites?

The old one was gone by the time I got to the cord, so I couldn't compare it. Thanks guys.

I prefer THIS ONE, as it is easier to plug in and remove.
Me too. I replaced the plug on MH a couple of years ago with this one and have had no problems. Got mine at Wal-Mart, where else??
  • Remember "Black Gold"....no, not oil, the black wire goes to the gold screw.....Dennis
  • When you open the new connector, there is three colored screws. Connect green wire to green screw, Black wire to the brass colored screw and the white wire to the silver screw.
  • othertonka has the correct and simple answer. buy the plug wherever you like and wire it like he said.

This is a typical camp ground pedestal for 50A 30A and 20A connections.

This is test procedure to determine if the 30AMP PLUG is wired correctly..

    Hope this helps...

There are a couple of other issues that may come up.

Is this a PULL OUT CABLE with the 30AMP PLUG mounted on the end of the 25-foot cord. The problem here is you must make sure the MALE PLUG will fit inside the door of this setup when you push it back into the trailer body for storage.. Some MALE PLUG HEADS are too large to fit inside the lid shown here

If this is an MALE/FEMALE 25-foot extension cord that connects to the side of the trailer with a FEMALE PLUG similar to this photo then you really won't have to worry about the size the MALE PLUG you are mounting to the end of the RV30AMP extension cord. Also be aware you can purchase a RV30AMP MALE FEMALE extension cord already made up from most any RV PARTS STORE...

If you are unsure how to wire the plug back on the end of the 25-foot extension cord I would seek professional help. Wiring it wrong could damage internal electrical items inside the trailer.

Remember what you wire up you will be responsible for anything you burn up. The licensed electrical folks are all bonded to pay for things they burn up by not connecting up correctly..

  • Yes that is the plug you need. Just remember when you wire it the black wire goes on the "dark" or "Brass" color screw` terminal and the "white" wire goes on the "silver" or "shinny" screw terminal, and the "green" wire goes on the "Green" or ground screw terminal. Good luck.

This might help. 30 amp RV plug
