IMO Having to watch weight because of lack of capacity is never good. Stick with 2500.
Don't forget other areas you could save some weight. Go with 8 oz cup of coffee instead of 10 oz. Or most new engines you should be OK run a quart low on oil and only fill gas tank to 1/2 tank, or even remove your valve stem covers. OK being a smart guy, but you get idea.
