It's such a large range because of different types of trailers can vary greatly in tongue weights. Fivers are usually between 20-25%, bumper pulls 10-15% and boats 5-7%. The boats are again another way that manufacturers get away with advertising such high tow ratings as they have much lighter tongue weights than standards trailers.
