1999 HitchHiker II 29 RKBW

Hello everyone,
Well we have some thinking to do and thought we would bring it to you for some help. We have someone who is selling a 1999 HitchHiker II 29 RKBW 5th wheel. Seems to be in really good shape. We really love the rear kitchen floor plan and it really flows for us. We just went over it with a pretty good look, roof good, slide works, ac works etc etc. Priced at 10K and that is the starting point, husband just died and wife can't do this without him. So what do you all think?

The one thing I need to really find out is can I put a Reese Sidewinder on this unit? I have a short bed RAM 2500, towing won't be an issue just turning. Anyone have one or know of one with this setup?

Thanks!
Dickson and Kathy

Please read this post and restate the statement above.

    Payload????

No not the weight Police, as I am over GVWR also! I just want you to be aware of the GVWR limitations of a 250/2500, sure you can pull it, but there is a chance depending on options you may be over GVWR.
  • We looked at a used one of those and gross-weight (max) was something like 12,000 to 13,000. I can't recall the pin weight

These are great rigs, if well maintained. Even the best made rig (New Horizons) can be trashed if the owner abuses it, or even fails to take care of it.

Not for pulling, what is your GVWR?? You may be in for a bit of a surprise if it is 10,000# or less.

What year is the 2500 RAM, and is it gas or diesel.

Just like a Arctic Fox, it is not a light unit.

    Dry weight 9,415#
    Pin (dry) 1,700#
    GVWR 11,435#

    Hitcher Hiker

These are nice units if in good shape, but heavy for their size. I have a 32' 5er, dry 9,820, GVWR 12,320. I tow with my 01 Ram and I am over my 8,800 GVWR, but well under my front and rear axles and tire ratings, 5,200# & 6,084#.

Best you can do on the sidewinder is call Reese customer service.
