2004 26.5 " model 2452P Sportsman 5th wheel

I am new to the Open Roads forum.
My buddy has been a member of this site for a lot of years and says it is a good place to get advice.
I have 5-6 trailers over the last 45 years but never a 5th wheel.

We are looking at going to an older smaller 5th wheel.

We are looking at a 2004 model 2452P Sportsman 5th wheel.(Kitchen across the back and couch and dinette in a slide out)
I am looking for information about this year and make of trailer in the event there is a problem with them or other information a person should know before buying it.
Thank you for any assistance given.
  • IMO that’s an old rig where you aren’t sure of maintenance and condition. You’ll be rolling the dice.
  • Welcome to the forum. If it's set outside all its life I would check the roof over probably close to end of life. Check the tire date code and for cracking also look for uneven tire ware it could indicate a bent axle. Have wheel bearings been packed? Do the brakes need replaced? The biggie any signs of water intrusion? Do all the appliances work including A/C and heater?

If it was stored inside when not in use it could save you a lot of money in maintenance roof and plastic trim. If it's sat outside the graphics are probably a good indicator. Some people keep their RV pristine while others are extremely hard on them. If the latter maintenance probably has not been done.

Good luck with you purchase and let us know how it goes.
  • Just a thought...when buying an older, smaller/shorter fifth wheel, and using a late model truck for towing, they are often mismatched, and will tow nose high.

  • Welcome to the forum!
Best advice I can give is to avoid buying anything that shows signs off leaks, especially in the ceiling. Even if the owner claims it's been fixed, it just isn't worth it. There are plenty of good used rigs out there.

    Good luck,
