2005 Jayco Eagle

Just wondering if anyone out there has one of these units and if so any pointers on what to look for when buying used? We are currently looking at a 30ft unit with a slide and bunks in the rear.
  • We have the 2005 325 BHS Eagle, we've had it for 5 years. The only costly repair we've had was replace the charge/converter this spring. Of course, excluding tires and batteries, I'd consider them normal replacements. Everything else has been the cheap plastic parts like drawer glide supports, closet door latches, etc. Never experienced any issues with water leaking in. Also, our fender covers are cracking around the screws.

    Good luck!
  • I've got an 05 308FBS, a 33 foot rear living area travel trailer. It is a TT, but I'm guessing it is very similar to 5th wheel. I has been a very good trailer. I Eternaboded the seams when it was a couple of years old. The only thing wrong with it is its weight.
  • We have a 2005 Jayco Eagle 28BHS, and LOVE it. My only complaints are that it has the short queen bed, and it's a bunkhouse TT. Kids are gone now and it would be nice to move to a 5er, with a full queen bed (I'm 6'3").

As long as it's taken well care of I wouldn't worry about it at all. Our plastic side fenders have cracks in the short areas due to normal aging etc, definitely not a blow-out. We have NO water issues around the slide (or anywhere) when driving in hard rain or sitting (slide either open or closed).

    Good luck!
  • I have an 2003 Eagle 29 ft.

One of the most critical things is the ability for water to penetrate from the sides of the slides down around the bottom and infiltrate the partical board/plywood flooring including the carpet pad and carpet.

In my estimation, my units design in this area is flawed. Jayco designed it so the gasket beneath the galley slide has a gap on both ends. As a result, the company installed two brackets which hold sponges. What a poooooooor design!

We eventually pulled all the carpet/padding and installed allure from Home Depot. Jayco dealership says we need to be more sensitive to the tilt of the trailer. hmmmmmmmm.

We haven't discovered any cures for the water penetration. When going down the highway in rainy weather, our flooring gets soaked on both sides of slide in the galley. Has been that way since we got it.

Please look at other brands to see how they control moisture on slides. I have and have found a number of them what seems a better design than what I have.

    Just some thoughts!

    Good Luck
  • Cracked plastic can also be because some idiot hit the skirt with an ATV while plowing the driveway during the winter and the trailer was parked on a pad next to the driveway, don't ask me how I know. It doesn't always have to be a blowout.
  • Cracked plastic is usually due to a blowout from the tire. These are easily replaceable through the salvage yards or Jayco directly (fender skirts).
  • Thanks all.......going in on Friday to check it out. Have actually inspected it twice but not the roof...this time I will. Generally in good shape outside, bar cracked plastic on wheel arches which is normal wear and tear. The interior is awesome....well looked after.
  • The Jayco Eagle enjoys a good reputation but the previous owner could have let it get wrecked if the normal maintenance was deferred particularly in sealing the roof which would lead to leaks, the tires and axles which would make the running gear unsafe, and the overall care of the exterior. All you can do is inspect the heck out of it looking for signs of water damage and other neglect. If minor issues are found they would be considered normal wear and tear.
  • Lots of information on this site if you search. Obviously you are looking for signs of leaks. GEt on the roof, look at the seals and caulk. Press around the windows outside and inside looking for signs of leaks or soft wood. Step everywhere on the floor looking for soft spots. Check all appliances, Check in each cupboard for signs of leaks. check tires, etc. Bring someone knowledgeable with you. Jayco makes a great unit and is reputable. Make sure the slides work easily. Search on google for what to look for used rv, there is a great youtube video on avoiding a lemon.
