2007 Cameo 5th Wheel Refrigerator Vent?

From time to time, in really Hot conditions, we have issues with the fridge staying cool. We are careful to pack the fridge to full and we cool everything off before putting it in the fridge. We are careful to monitor the electric current etc.

I noticed that most RV's have a vent above the fridge coils to allow from some cooling. Many of the Carriage/Cameo products, including mine do not. I have the outside access panel but nothing above it to generate some air flow.

Just wondering what everyone think? Is this an issue or just a different way of doing things.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

Putting the vent in should not be a real big deal. I think the top of the fridge opens to the cavity above and behind the cabinet facia. Sawzall the hole using the base of the vent as a template. Screw it down and seal it up.
I had to replace the top of the vent and while looking down the hole saw the top of the fridge.
Getting a weather tight seal would be the trick.

A jig saw would be more appropriate for the task at hand.

  • You are correct the fridge is not in the slide.

--- There is no vent on the roof. The only thing near the top of the fridge area on the roof are the gray & black vent pipes. I went up and looked. I have communicated with other Carriage owners who have the same issue. I think I may call the Manufacture of our fridge and see what they say.

Installing a vent seems like a big job!

I did try the Carriage Forum and nobody responded.

    Thanks to you all ---
  • Look on the roof above your frig, you should have a rectangular vent hood. From what I know they vent better than the double side wall vent.

If there is no upper or foof vent you have a mfg. error.
  • According to what I see, your fridge is not in a slide out. If so & you don't have a roof vent above it, you have a mfg mistake & it won't cool properly.
  • I have the Carriage with the fridge in the slide. It has the upper and lower vents in the sidewall. I put a old computer fan in the bottom compartment angled up and on a dimmer switch to circulate the air because I read some people had problems. I have never turned it on because I haven't camped in really hot temperatures.

  • Any cooling unit in a slide uses an upper sidewall vent. (How would you get through the roof??)

If you do not have a 12 volt circulation fan in the upper opening controlled by a thermostat, you need to add one.
  • Can't answer that, we have one on our 2006 35KS3. I would suggest that you might get more feedback if you post your question on the Yahoo Carriage forum. They have over 2000 Carriage owners. Try http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Carriage_RV/
    Good luck,
  • I'm not familiar with your model. However, my Cameo has the fridge in the slide-out with a lower and upper vent panel on the sidewall. If you fridge is not in a slide-out, your fridge "chimney" should be on the roof. I have a Norcold and it cools incredibly on a/c but recently started to suffer on LP. I cleaned the burner and the flue and now it is as good as new. Phillip
