2014 Arctic fox 29 5-k

We have a 2013 Ram 2500 heavy duty with the Turbo Diesel. We are looking to purchase a 2014 Arctic Fox 29-5K (GVWR 16,600). We are wondering if anyone has experience towing this size 5th wheel with a 3/4 ton diesel.
Any real time experiences will be appreciated!
Thank You

Wow, the dry pin on that unit is HEAVY!! It also has a HUGE payload! Realistically you are looking at towing about 12,500 to 13,000#, pin as a percentage of dry would be 3,120#, I know that would put me over my axle rating. With a 2013 you might be within the axle rating.

    Specifications:

Dry Axle Weight (approx. Lbs.): 8545
Dry Hitch Weight (approx. Lbs.): 2663
    Net Carrying Capacity: 5392
Gross Dry Weight - Lbs.: 11208
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) - Lbs.: 16600
    Exterior Length (approx. w / hitch): 35'2"
    Exterior Height (approx.): 13'
    Exterior Width (approx.): 8'6"
  • Lets make this simple--YESyou have problem too much weight. You might consifer looking at a 1Ton diesel.
  • My trailer is a 2009 model 29-5T, which is somewhat lighter overall and definitely lighter on the pin weight compared to the 29-5K. I find that when I go out, I'm always over my 9200 lb GVWR by 500 to 1000 lbs or so. The truck is a 2008 Chevy Crew Cab long bed with Duramax/Allison. I have upgraded tires, wheels, added more spring and upgraded the shocks to help carry the increased load. The trailer feels just fine behind the truck, even in gust, windy conditions. I'm very happy with the handling of the combined unit.

Having said that, I would prefer to have a 1 ton vs the 3/4 ton. Just makes more sense to have more truck to handle greater weights. Sure the factories probably under-rate their truck's weight carrying capacity, but you don't want to get too much over the ratings, just in case you have problems.
  • What Don said....our 29-5E was heavy (pin weight) for our ol' 99 F250. I don't know your truck to answer the pin weight question
  • Towing not going to be your problem. Loading the rear axle of your truck with an additional 3200 pounds of pin weight is.
