Your shower floor is actually higher then the sink which explains why the kitchen sink fills up. So it sounds like your problem is somewhere on the "downhill" side of the kitchen sink, heading toward the tank. The problem could be an actual blockage or it could be a venting problem.
The pressure and odor you experience with the check valve might indicate that the system is not venting - not getting enough air to displace the waste water being introduced to the system.
One way to check that out is to get on the roof and run a garden hose down the vents-they should run freely and go to their respective tanks. The other way to check is to try what was previously suggested and momentarily open up the dump valve for the kitchen waste tank and see if that corrects the problem, but If you are not on full hookup that might not be possible.
If you are satisfied that the waste tank has adequate venting, then I would start looking for a blockage somewhere between the kitchen sink and the waste tank.
