2016/2017 Montana Insulation & A/C Question

Hello,

Not sure if I should post this here or on full timers but I'm looking at getting a new or almost new Montana 5th wheel to live in full time while I'm
Living here in Yuma,AZ on a temporary basis. My question is for those recent Montana owners as to how cool has the coach stayed in extremely hot conditions?

I'm guessing that despite the Montana's A/C being upgraded to two 15k a/c units it would still struggle to keep the unit remotely cool in the extreme Yuma summers. Anyway, if anyone has any info based on personal experience I'd surely appreciate hearing about it.

I'm assuming that adding a shade would help so if anyone can speak to how much help that is I'd appreciate that too.

  • Our Montana 3790RD is scheduled to go back to the factory on Feb 7th to have them test and correct the airflow problems we've had with our unit since we took delivery in April. NOT a fan of the new Whisper design at all. Very little airflow out of the vents. Removing the vent covers helps some, but not much. The Georgia/South Carolina heat has won every trip so far with 50A and I won't even mention on 30A. We have been severely disappointed in ours. Your mileage may vary. And yes, over on the Montana forum, is several more just like us.
  • Ask your question on the Montana Owners Club forum (MOC). There are a lot of owners there that live in the hotter climates, routinely travel thru them, or head to them in the winter. They can tell you from actual experience.
  • if you have a awning, park your unit with the awning west or north. as that will protect one side from the most intense heat during the summer. of course you will need to strap and peg it down so it won't rip off during a wind storm. better yet leave it rolled up and build a temporary porch that overhangs 4-6 feet on all sides, and leave a foot or two air space above your r.v. anything that keeps the sun off your r.v. will help. camouflage netting, aluminum foil whatever.. the foil bubble pack in the windows also help. and be sure to turn off the a/c during a dust storm. as the dust will turn to rock when it drys in the a/c condenser. hose the a/c condenser clean of dust after each storm, also the cooling coils of your refrigerator. also you should install screw hold downs at all corners of your r.v. and metal straps over the frame to keep your r.v. from moving during a storm..
