2018 Dodge 3500 Laramie Longhorn Duelly

The Cummins is a true medium duty commercial motor. The transmissions, whether the 68RFE or the Aisin are near bulletproof. The interiors are reputed to be some of the nicest in the business. Depending on RE ratio and load you can expect probably about the same, maybe a bit better fuel economy.

Regarding the RAM. What axle ratio and what transmission? 4x4 or 4x2? Aisin or 68RFE. Tranny dig stick on drivers side is Aisin, on the passengers side is 68RFE. The Aisin is the optional upgraded tranny. 5th wheel pucks in behind along with gooseneck?

The I-6 Cummins is a good engine. It will not win drag races, however it will drag a house over. The 2018 will have the more reliable Bosch CP3 injection pump. I have always changed my own oil and filter, and fuel filters on three different RAM Cummins over 25 years.

PS: I was a Ford man for 45 years, the only exception was a used VW Dasher Diesel. That was the only non Ford I owned.

I believe the Cummins engine just reached 30 years of use in pickups. Have you been living under a rock for the last 30 years that you thought Ram was using a "Dodge" I-6 Diesel engine? For better or worse, the trucks have had the Cummins logo on them since 2003, and the word "Cummins" on them for the entirety of the run. How did you not notice? I've never owned a Ford fullsize truck but I know that the word "Powerstroke" has been on their trucks since what, 94?

Also, the word "Dodge" hasn't appeared on Ram trucks since, I think, 2005. The trucks were actually rebranded sometime later...but the word "Dodge" actually does not appear, anywhere that I can find, on my '05.

Ram has been a separate division for some time. I couldn't be happier with my ctd, I have had it for nine years and have replaced the water pump and a/c clutch. It is no better on fuel than a gasser for everyday driving but on the highway towing there is no contest.

First part of your statement is right. But you missed the second part by many years.

My 2012 says “Dodge” on the dash. And most people I know still refer to the truck as a Dodge. Even MOPAR guys like me slip up occasionally. I still don’t know why they changed the branding (other than the thought of really spinning/selling off on of the brands).

That would be a hard decision, and might come down to price, and comparing trim levels.

The AISIN is also True Medium Duty.

Officially RAM starting with model year 2013.

Simply look around. VAST majority of Independent HotShot and RV haulers own RAM.

Look up Cummins High Mileage Club.

I tow 33-35k combined with confidence with my RAM AISIN DRW.

I just thought I would add my experience. I have a 2018 RAM 3500 Aisin CTD. My dad has a 2018 Ford F350 6.7 dually. Mine is SRW. His gets better mileage towing my toy hauler loaded than the RAM does. His is much faster when unloaded and they both are within 2MPH pulling up over Vail pass on I-70 with the toy hauler loaded down. RAM has the cp3 pump so that is nice but the build quality on the Ford is better. The RAM gauges and infotainment system is better. The ford is quieter especially when under heavy load going up hill. The technology in the ford is head and shoulders above what RAM offers. The 360 Camera system, Adaptive cruise, Mirrors that go from tow mode to empty truck mode without getting out of your truck, Tailgate step and quite a few other features are just not avail on the RAM. I have driven both trucks pulling my 36ft toy hauler at least 2000 miles each over mostly the same roads. Just my .02 cents.

Sounds as though you feel the RAM should distance itself from the Dodge marquee. I wonder why? Just because something was re branded doesn't make it better or different it's still the same vehicle and company producing it. Examples Chevelle became Malibu which originally was just a trim package, Chevyll became Nova, Corvette was known as Stingray for a while.
