Jaw thickness has zero to do with high pinning a hitch. Hell even one of SAF-Holland 150k 5th wheel hitches on big rigs can be high pinned.
I see Curt 5th wheel hitch mentioned more than any hitch brand as the hitch of choice on a couple of LTL haulers forums I frequent.
For some the jaw thickness will make a difference. The bottom of each brands jaws are the same distance down from the 5th wheel plate the RV sits on so when hitched the jaws keep the kingpin from jumping up when going over bumps.
So with the B&W if you sit on top of the jaws "high hitch" you will have a 1/2" larger gap between hitch and RV kingpin plate and more noticeable to the hard of seeing with the B&W than Curt or another hitch with 1/2" thick jaws.
I have had no problem with high hitching but some seem to. Just something else to consider.
Another plus to the B&W is the solid steel welded construction of the hitch head VS the pressed steel parts of the Curt hitch. Just my observations when comparing the two side by side.
