2nd AC unit

Just broke down and added the 2nd AC unit in bedroom on our 37" Jayco Designer. Trip to LA and AL with 90 degree temps convinced us. One of our major issues was the noise since the AC sits right over our living room area. I am hoping we can use the front unit to maintain cool while watching TV and then switch to back when sleeping. Does this work for most of you with two units. Jim
  • Our unit has ducted AC. It came wired for a second AC in the bedroom. We have a fantastic fan instead of a second Ac unit ion the bedroom. If we camped in the south more in the summer we would probably install a second AV unit in the bedroom.

In the bedroom is a temperature sensor that can be used by the thermostat. The thermostat has dual zone control - one for the main living area one for the bedroom area. So - I am assuming that the bedroom Ac could be set for one temperature and the living room set for another.

Someone that has a similar thermostat and two Ac units may be able to verify the operation of the controls.

    Found this in the manual:
Zone Control Zones are established at the time of the installation of your Dometic CCC 2 thermostat. A zone is an area of cooling/heating which is controlled independently by the CCC 2 thermostat. The CCC 2 thermostat allows for four zones (Air Conditioner/ Heat Pump) to be set up and run independent of each other. If you have one air conditioner/ heat pump installed, you will have one zone. If your RV has more than one cooling/heating system, you may have 2, 3, or 4 zones.
  • When we bought our 5er we had the front AC added, because a friend who also has a 5er with 2 units told us how much more we would enjoy hot weather camping with 2 ACs. We are so glad we listened to him! During the day we usually run both units, and we put a fan in the bedroom aimed into the living area to help move the air. At night we reverse the fan placement and sometimes turn off the front unit, because the front AC is a little noisier than we prefer. Going to 50-amp service and 2 ACs really extended our summer camping season, compared to the 30-amp travel trailer with only one AC!
  • We turn both on to cool down the trailer then just run 1... At night we always keep the 2nd one on , it's kind of like white noise to me ! Once the trailer is cooled you can run either as long as they both are ducted... Joe
  • Both of ours are ducted, in our current rig, so you plan works great for us. In our old 5th wheel the front air was not ducted. So it did not work well in 90* weather to cool the TV area to a comfortable level for us. But may be good for others.
  • That is what we do, but it sure is nice to run both during the day. :)

Yup, that's what we do...unless it is REALLY hot.

Yea, thought that was the way it should work. Spend the winter in Key West and most of the time I think that will work..
