We're considering a new FW and a couple of the options are upgrading the single AC to 15k with 2nd AC prep (I believe the prep is standard). There is also a 30 to 50 amp option. First question; if I upgrade to the 15k AC will I =need= 50 amp or is that just "belt and suspenders" for a single AC. Second question; if I have the 15k AC and get the 50 amp service, can I use a 30 amp cord until such time as I add a 2nd AC and would be required to use the heavier cord? Third question; would I simply just be better off using 50 amp from the get-go, even with only 1 AC?Lyle

My thoughts are that its kind of senseless to have 2 AC's and not be able to run them together.When I run my FW off my 2 generators (in parallel) , I use the smaller 30 amp cord..

IMHO, If you plan to get 50A service, get it from the factory. That makes sure that it's wired correctly. 30A service is single phase. 50A is supplied dual phase. Also, 50A service is 50A on each phase for a combined total of 100A. I don't see how a unit built for 30A can be easily modified for 50A.

If you have the option of ordering 50 amp on the trailer go with it, you won't regret the decision should or when you need to run 2 AC's. We run our rig on 30 most of the time mainly because the 30a cord is easier to manage and there's only 1AC unit but, if the coffee pot, H/W heater and microwave are called to action at the same time, we trip the breaker. Using the 50a solves that and avoids the potential of low voltage to the AC which could be a bigger problem.

The 50AMP Trailer system has two ZONE groups of circuit breakers with each group fed by a 50AMP source...a 30AMP Trailer system only has a single zone group of circuit breakers.To re-wire a 30AMP Trailer to a 50AMP trailer will get involved. You need to purchase a 50AMP Trailer and not have to worry about any of this...Roy Ken
