35' toyhauler recommendations and what to look for

We are looking for recommendations for toyhaulers in the 35' range with separate garage and suggestions on what to look for when shopping THs. We currently have a 33' BH.

Current toys:
My Harley which is 8.5' long.

Would like to get a golf car which is around the same as the Harley.

In the future?? Maybe a RZR/quad (maybe, but doubtful as not many places here work with one). A single seater RZR is 10', and a 4 seater is just over 12 feet. Both are 6' wide.

So I would think a garage under 13' would be more than suitable? Or not worry about a 4 seater I probably never plan on getting and stick with a garage closer to 11'?

We like the ones with a bathroom in the back for the kids, but it's not a deal breaker since we aren't traveling long stays. It seems most with a second bath end up being closer to 39'.

Slides are nice as we usually go camping with 4-6 people so it gives some room inside at dinner time.

A generator is a must so we can expand our locations.

Other than that, what key elements should we be looking at that are different than travel trailers? Storage tanks, axle ratings, etc.... We are in Chicagoland and visit mostly Michigan and Wisconsin currently.

Appreciate the input everyone has here.

    We thought of a toyhauler too. Recliners would have to a must, but more importantly triple axle for support and good tires!

    A 35-footer probably wouldn't have triple axles, I don't think.

    Most triple axles I have seen start around 42 feet. I def. am not looking for something that large as the dry weights are tipping 18K lbs.

    a few thoughts on what to look at:

    Cargo capacity (CCC) - my preference was to find one with at least 3000 lbs capacity; this gets used up quickly with toys, water, and gas. Some units use smaller axles, some up to 7k axles.

    interior width - even on wide bodies this varies.

    garage length - 12' garage will push you up to at least 37' overall length.

    couch/tv configuration, is it comfortable and does the layout work well?

    grey/fresh/black tank sizes - are they adequate for your usage

    generator - generally the 5500 is quieter than the 4000 watt, if that's important to you

    Interior and underside storage - make sure its adequate for what you take

    aluminum vs fiberglass exterior- most of what them in that range are probably fiberglass, but there are a few aluminum's. pros/cons to both.


    most likely anything you find will have some trade-offs, so just figure out what's a must have to help narrow them down.

    If you want more garage space in a shorter camper you could consider a unit without a separate garage. There are some cons to consider too but it would give you a little more cargo flexibility without getting overly long.

    For a 4 seat RZR, you'll need at least a 12'6" garage. Stock, they are 12'2", and then most toyhaulers of this type have the rear patio option, so the "walls" for the patio take up about 3-4" of room.

    Our Keystone Impact 351 has most of what you mention in your list, except for the 2nd bath. Garage is 12'6". But, we're just over 38' long. We also do not have a dining table in the main living area, so that might be a negative factor with kids. There's a portable table you can set up in the garage area with the drop down bed which converts to benches.

    Our neighbor has a Fuzion 371 that has what you list, including the half bath, but only 11' garage. But it's 39'. Also again, no dining table. We've found very few toyhaulers with separate garages under 40' have a dining area. I can't even think of a single one we looked at that had one to be honest.

    I noticed that on the dining table situation which kind of stinks. Although I am ok with a table for the garage for the kids. They are getting too old to want to sit with us anyways. I like the separate garage for the fact that you get the rubber floor and if you wont be getting **** all over your normal floor. Plus you get slides. Without a garage, they really don't offer much in terms of slides in the living area.

    Although I noticed the new trend is swing out stools which is a great idea that we like.

    The dealer we were going to visit this weekend has a 328M ($65K) and a 351M ($75K). 328 looks like a nice layout. Seems a bit high for the size, but it looks like a quality camper.

    To keep 35ftish and fit what you want your gonna have to be open floorplan no walled off garage. I haul 3 muddy 4 wheelers in mine, cleans up fine and no smell either.
