We have it and like others say it depends on what you plan to do when you get where you are going. If you are a stay on the pavement and go see what 10,000 other people are trying to see, then you probably don't need it.
If on the other hand you want to drive on roads like this
and see sights like this:
or this:
with no one around for miles then you will want a 4WD.
One other thing, that 5ver is fairly heavy you should make sure that older truck will handle that payload, is it a dually? 3000 pounds would be too much for a current generation single rear wheel truck. And older trucks tend to have much lower tow and payload capacities.
