50-amp service allows you two separate zones of 120VAC circuit breakers
this is a simplified layout of the two zones...
This is most useful if you are running two air conditioners in the RV unit.
by comparison this is simplified layout of a 30AMP single zone of 120VAC circuit breakers.
This is a simplified drawing of how a camp ground pedestal is wired for 50AMP and 30AMP service..

This really answered my question about which one is standard on a 5er. :h - Paul_ClancyExplorerOurs has 50amp. Another advantage is the ability to run 2 electric heaters. Or coffee pot and microwave without tripping breakers. The 50 amp service was a selling feature for me as I wanted a mid profile under 10k dry with 2nd ac prep. Has worked great. Crusader 295rst te 2014.
- tvman44Explorer50 amp is mostly on the newer units, 30 amp was the standard for years.

- RanduExplorerIf the rig is large enough to have 2 AC units or has washer/dryer prep then you can bet on 50 amp. If rig is small there will not be the space for washer/dryer or the need for 2 AC units so 30 amp usually works fine. Randu

The standard was/is 30 amp service. With the addition on a 2nd A/C unit and some other higher consumption options on larger units there was need for additional power, hence 50 amp service.
We never needed more than the 30 amp service until we installed the 2nd A/C unit.
Hope that helps clear things up.
My 2 previously owned MH both had 50 amp. I agree, 2 a/c's need 50 amp. Felt like it was not standard except on the newer models or ones from factory with 2 a/c. - mdamerellExplorerThe standard was/is 30 amp service.
