The hitch is mounted in the bed of the tow vehicle. The pin box is the component that sticks out of the front of the 5er and connects with the hitch. The pin is the grooved cylinder that is permanently affixed to the bottom side of the pin box that actually mates into the hitch. Once the hitch jaws are closed around the pin, the two vehicles are connected together.
