5th wheel hitch for flatbed

I have a 2011 Dodge 3500 Dually with a 9' steel CM flatbed. I am interested in the B&W Companion & was wondering if this 5th wheel hitch would work on a flatbed? Or is there no differences when compared to a regular bed? Thanks

  • We have the B&W Flat Bed hitch on our rig, works great...sure it's not a pickup but close...:D LOL
  • There shouldn't be a problem unless it's the height of the 5th on the flatbed. On a standard pick up truck the 5th is mounted down between the wheels. On the flatbed, the bed is up above the wheels.

We had an old F450 that we wanted to use a smaller 5th wheel equipment trailer behind. To get things level, we took the bed off and mounted the 5th on the frame rails - sort of like a 5th on a tractor.

I've seen people do it and it works fine. Just check the heights before expending money or labor on it.

  • A flat bed is usually higher than the floor of a pick-up bed. There are fifth wheel hitches designed specifically for flat beds. They don't typically stick up as high as one in a pick-up.
