hitch for flatbed

selling tt buying 5er. I have a 12' dodge 3500 with flatbed. having problems finding hitch. plan on using reese 16k and shortening it.What would be a good height from ground to hitch. tongue weight is 2k. Hitch has some adjustment.Any thought's would be appreciated.Don't have trailer yet. It's either going to be a mountaineer 295rk or Laredo 292rl.Have to get the horse ready for the cart.
  • Check Hensley Trailersaver hitch. They make a 32k low profile hitch that bolts to a plate. Its what I'm thinking of putting on my flatbed.
  • I built my own frame mounts that attached to the frame same as the factory mounts. My mounts have a drilled steel plate that is flush with the under side of the flat bed deck. The plates have a 1/2 in nuts welded to the under side. The reese cross rails sit on top of deck and bolts down into the nutplates under the deck. Real quick to remove. Used high tensil tall nuts from CAT. Built same set up for my present 2500 p/u
  • I built my bed with a flat deck, no well. My reese 16k was easy to adapt cuz the side mounts are 3" wide. I pitched the reese side mounts and made my own out of 3" square pipe which bolt to the structural steel frame of the bed. I remove the 4 bolts and I have a flat deck. Holland make an awesome primo 5er hitch to use in pockets. Do a search to find it. Craig
    I found it.

  • Industry standard for pin box height is 46-48 inches from the ground for a level fiver. Not many fiver manufacturers publish this anymore.
  • Thanks the B&w wont fit down in the well where my goose neck is. So i was going to make rails that bolt down and adjust the height so it wouldn't be to tall.
