...You need to torque five fasteners to install a B&W companion each time.
40 # ft. on the hold down bolt, and 80# ft.on the four U bolt nuts each and every time you install.
I have not found that to be a big deal. Just takes a few minutes to torque the bolts.
I carry a torque wrench in my truck for that and to check the lugs on the trailer.
The hitch itself is very easy to hitch and operate. It is very sturdy and dependable. I would buy another B&W hitch.
Not sure what you are talking about. I have the B&W companion for the Ford OEM mount and I don't have to torque anything. just drop it in the four pucks and turn the handles to the lock position, insert the lock pins and you are done. The easiest hitch I have ever used.
I think the point was it has to be done every time, regardless whether it is a big deal or not. Where other hitches do not. B&W has a feature that does not seem to make sense, it can be locked in the open position, most of the hitches I have been involved with will close when backed into, whereas the B&W can be locked to prevent closing when backing into.
I have the wrap around J style 18K reese hitch, I too find it to be strong, easy to hitch ,and operate.
