5th wheel hitch suggestion

I just ordered a new F250 with the 5th wheel hitch prep option. It will have the 6 3/4 bed and my 5th wheel has the rounded corners on the front. Not sure if I need a slider hitch because on my 05 Ram short bed truck I have not used the slider option one time in 13 years! I think the bed in the new Ford is about 4 inches longer than my Ram. My question is what hitch is considered appropriate? If I don't get a slider model I am leaning toward the B&W Companion model 3300. Without the slider this particular model gives you the ability to slightly move the center of the hitch back about 2 inches. If I go with a slider I am considering the Curt A16 with the C16020 slide. Both hitches are close in price. I really don't want a slider but if I do get one this is the time to do it.

Anyone else realize a slider is a waste of money? I hate the noise and clunk of a slider. I assume both Curt and B&W are good products. My old hitch is a Draw Tite

The OP wants to use the puck system in his new truck, which IMO, makes the 3300 a better choice than a single point attaching hitch, or needing a raised adapter for a rail attachment.

I think you missed the weight of his fifth wheel, and using the single point Andersen hitch. No I wouldn't go the single point with the heavier fifth wheels , meaning in the 16-18K GVWR. Yes I wouldn't go the frame adapter either now .Had to back in 2014 to stay with my standard Reese hitch . Its an option If he wanted to save some money ,and use his existing hitch , but that doesn't sound like what he wants to do . He wants a new quiet hitch .

When I ordered my truck in early 13, the 3300 for pucks, was not yet available. I did not want the Reese/Ford version that was the only choice, so did not order prep pkg. I have the Patriot with rails, which I am happy with! The 3300 became available shortly after my truck started down the assembly line. Nope, could not add the FW prep pkg.

Things must of changed in 2014 , we had available with the pucks the frame adapters. I know Reese built one for Ford ,and Ram. I have the Reese picture frame adapter in my 2014 Ram truck. .Was bought to use with my existing Reese slider hitch that required standard rails, and still using with the rail mount Andersen.

Besides the Cummins motor, the puck, and fifth prep was one of the big selling points to me. My research shortly after purchase led me to the Reese frame adapter. Actually now I believe there is three different brands of the frame adapters to accommodate the older standard fifth wheel hitches. Nice thing now for anyone have the fifth wheel prep, the availability of hitches with the puck system , although I am happy with the rail mountAndersen .

The frame adapter never comes out of my truck, no need . Its not a factor when I remove the Andersen if I need the bed clear to haul my pontoon boat for fishing. Just too many reasons to never want to go back to a standard hitch , but no one knows until they have the Andersen :B

You are on track with your thinking. You didn't use the slider with the Ram, and now the Ford will work even better. It isn't the bed length though, as much as it is the distance from axle center, to the back of cab. The Ford is giving you several more inches of clearance in this case. No, you don't need a slider!

The 3300 is by far the best choice for your new Ford! You just upgraded to the best truck, may as well put best hitch in it!! You will love them both!

    Congrats on the new purchases,

Have towed with both trucks , and have had no clearance problems with either, with four different fifth wheels between the two trucks . Two of those fifth wheels pretty much had the old conventional front caps , the last two the rounded corners.

I wouldn't say the 3300 is the best choice ,but a good one . His truck ,his fifth wheel weight I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Andersen. I personally wouldn't tow with anything else , having towed with both the standard fifth wheel hitch ,and the Andersen . If the OP is looking for quiet ,then there is absolutely nothing quieter then the Andersen .

But as said this subject has been beat to death , truck ,and hitch. I am always a little disappointed when we beat up a certain hitch, yet have never had one . We have seen failures from every hitch made, including the B&W. We have seen issues with hitching ,and unhitching, and worn out parts on every standard hitch .We have seen every standard fifth wheel hitch used wrong ,resulting in dropping a fifth wheel on the bed of a truck. What you won't read is someone dropping a fifth wheel on the bed of a truck with the Andersen , or an issue with hitching ,or an issue with replacing parts , zerks to grease etc etc .

    1. I know this has been beat to death, but I’d suggest a F-350, since little difference in ride or cost.
    2. Pullrite is still the standard of comparison. Also great customer service.

I considered a 350 but this will be my last 5th wheel and it has a dry weight of 8500lbs. Pin weight is about 1600 lbs. I also ordered the Godzilla 7.3 gas instead of the diesel. My 05 Ram Cummins may have been the last of the simpler diesels.

Jerry, is your truck a short box? Which BW hitch do you have?
