5th wheel hitch

Can anyone recommend a fifth wheel hitch that is slider, with weight capacity of 26,000 lbs, and is fairly easy to switch over to gooseneck hitch? Preferably a Curtis, or Reese, or other top name brand?

Thanks.

  • A 26000 lb rated 5th wheel sliding hitch ??
The Curt slider up to 24k.
The Andersen system up to 24K.
A Reese slider up to 26k lb draw and 6500 lb load.
A B&W slider up to 20k lb draw and 4500 load.

A 26000 lb trailer is a bit much for light weight RV hitches and especially for a sliding hitch. It may have a 5500-6500 lb pin weight depending.
No doubt the 3500 DRW Mega cab can handle a GN trailer that size with ease as evident of the many commercial haulers using them. I see them with door numbers up to 38k-40k gross combined weights.

You might go with a custom haulers bed with say a light commercial hitch like the SAF-Holland FW001 that has a 8000 lb load and a 32000 lb draw rating.
  • Andersen Ultimate Aluminum hitch.. I have It and Love it.. Google it.. Does away with the slider..Easy to remove when not using it..
  • B&W makes a good gooseneck and fifth wheel sliding hitch, but it's not rated 26,000 for the fifth wheel part of it.

I would have to agree that the only short bed pickup anywhere close to capable of carrying the hitch weight of a 26,000 lb fifth wheel, would be a newer Dodge Megacab dually.

    26,000 x 20 percent = 5200

Just off hand I would say that kind of weight does not belong behind a short bed truck.

MegaCab Dually? But it would have to be the lightest of pin weights.
