5th wheel or gooseneck?

What do you guys think about the Anderson hitch with the kingpin coupler? Seems like it would put no more strain than a traditional 5th wheel hitch on the frame of the 5er.
I like the fact that it only weighs 40-45lbs and is easily removed when not needed.

We used to sell gun safes and did many area fairs and shows. At the time I had a gooseneck stock trailer that we hauled safes in and a fifth wheel camper.

It got to be a royal PITA to put the gooseneck hitch in, load safes, transport them to a show, then go home and change to the fifth wheel hitch, transport the camper to the show, then do it all over again when we were done.

I also learned to hate trying to align the gooseneck hitch and hook safety chains. I ended up changing the stock trailer to a king pin and never regretted it.

I know having the hitch in the truck is inconvenient, but with my puck system, I can take the head off and remove the hitch relatively easy (and I am 65 years old).

I am not much of a fan of hitching and unhitching a gooseneck trailer.

And Lippert will void the frame warranty with a goose neck adapter. on their 5th wheel frame. Lippert owns Reese and will accept their GooseBox. Other than the air spring in the pin box it is really no different than a rigid adapter as for the stresses on the trailer frame.

I've had both on an RV and the my 5er didn't like the GN adaptor, one bit. The only reason I tried the GN adaptor was for our off road camping, at that time, and I had a single pivot 5er hitch that bound up a lot. I built my RV bed for 5er hitch and GN ball so I tried the GN adaptor, thinking it would be the best for all-round use but hard hiway pulling did a job on the bedroom area wall... alum siding coming off and staples coming out of the inside paneling. I won't risk a GN adaptor again.
30 years later, I had a 5er RV and a big GN cargo trailer at the same time and I put a kingpin post on the cargo trailer and I loved it. A fifth wheel hitch is easier anyway. Craig

I would go with the hitch the trailer was made for.

Gooseneck 5th wheel RV's are pretty scarce. Most use a 5th wheel hitch, and not a gooseneck. There are some but mostly in the toyhauler category.

I like our Reese Goose Box. Smooth ride and leaves bed empty when not towing aside from the ball and chain tie downs.
