5th Wheel roadside service insurance offerings

Getting ready to leave on coast to coast trip and looking to see opinions on what companies have performed well for roadside assistance or towing. I got a quote of $ 115 for Allstate coverage that was unlimited? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • What roadside issues can a 5th wheel have? Blowouts. Get decent, non-Chinese made tires and your chances of a roadside incident are reduced to almost zero. In my six years of cris-crossing the US I've had one roadside tire issue and that was the inside dually (Bridgestones) on my truck. Been very happy with the truck tires I run on my trailers (Michelin XPS Ribs).
  • If you have low blood pressure, dealing with roadside assistance people will do wonders to get it up to normal. With smartphones, it really doesn't do much for you.

Even if you break down every other year, financially it's still a wash. All you really get is somebody to search the internet and call tow services close to you and see if they will agree to tow you at a discounted rate.
  • Like Scott above, I tend to do my own repairs, but in watching these forums, it seems Coach Net has a loyal following and fewer complaints, this could however just be due to this being a GS affiliated site.
  • Do a side by side comparison of the Allstate Policy vs the Good Sam Emergency Road Side policy. Important to look and compare each individual service for limitations and exclusions especially the yearly costs. Are there any geograhical differences in cities and states as to what services will be provided. i.e. AAA road side service is not uniform as you travel between states and cities.:(
  • In 27 years of RVing, I have needed a tow one time (I fix my own flats).
That puts me ahead thousands of dollars to the point that even if I need another tow someday, I'm still money ahead.
Also, when I got that tow I didn't have to fool around with some company trying to save a buck. A tow company was called and they showed up fast.
That, in my mind, is better service than having RA.
  • It was for a year. We plan on doing some boondocking so just looking for a safety net.
  • We have the same coverage on our AllState policy. It's probably $115 for every 6 months. Never had to use it.
  • Is that a month or year? What does it cover? Many are not worth the paper their printed on. IMHO you might be better off putting some money in a special account for emergencies.
