Why handicap your equipment? Why would you not utilize it as intended? I realize and understand that dropping psi will benefit slightly better ride quality, but at what cost? There comes a point when one needs to realize that we are not driving Cadillacs which are designed to give a soft ride. We are driving hd trucks which are designed to haul. Each component is built and assembled for that purpose. To try and weaken a piece of it only leads to one ultimate conclusion...failure. This is all MY OPINION. And multiple opinions are what make forums such as this great. I understand your point that lowering psi has benefits, but I don't think that the right time to chance it is when several thousand pounds of load are depending on the tires performing as intended. IMHO, I wnat every piece of that truck performing to its maximum ability to insure me and my family arrive safe. If that means a slightly rougher ride than so be it. It's a truck, not a caddy.
