Storage is pretty much a wash, you lose the truck bed with the 5er but gain the basement (depends on specific models).
5ers do tow better but assuming you set up the bumper pull correctly, I wouldn't use that as the deciding factor.
One issue if you are nearing retirement, how are the hips and knees doing. A bumper pull does have few steps (but still have steps to get in and out).
5er layouts tend to be nicer and the high ceilings make for a better living space.
We went 5er but either is a reasonable option. Best bet is to go to some dealerships and look around (preferably without the salesman present)
