75 Speed Limit - How Fast

Agreed. The rural freeway speed limit 80 where I live. My tires are rated for 75 and I tow a little under that provided the conditions allow for it. I think going 60 and having a 20-25 MPH speed differential with most other traffic is more dangerous. My opinion may change if I had a more marginal tow vehicle relative to our camper.

I have truck tires on my trailer so speed is not an issue. I keep it around 70. I've had it briefly up to 85 with no issues, 12 tires on the road means a very stable ride.

As a side note: Class A gas is governed to 76. Class A diesel pusher is governed to 75 while in cruise control but will do 85 if pushed. Class B diesel is not governed. Just from my experiences driving these things for a dealer, your experiences may vary.

I've been through ID and Utah where speeds were 80 mph for autos. Even when I had my 2500 diesel and light 9200 lb 5th wheel with 87 mph tires I still only went 65 mph. I just couldn't see running 75 mph and sucking diesel like a snow cone on a hot day.
Last year heading south from ID into Utah with my gasser and 9500 lb TT I still kept the speed under 65 mph. I never felt like a hindrance to anyone. It's not like traffic in L.A when out on the interstate in ID and UT. I did suck gas big time last year but it was really cheap. :)

I set the cruise around 68-70mph. I suck fuel down like I'm a charter member of OPEC. I tried one trip at 55mph and seemed like it took forever to get there. I was also uncomfortable with the speed differential with traffic. My trailer's tires are rated over 100 mph so that's not a issue. On two lane roads I travel around 60 mph if conditions permit.

Unless you have really screwed up the loading of a 5er, sway is not an issue.

64 for me seems a good compromise for getting to my destination and having an uneventful tow. Don't forget as you go faster especially over 70 the trailer becomes more prone to sway. When I chat with folks describing their white knuckle experiences without exception they have been towing over 70 mph.

55 which is the limit in California.

Thanks for the responses. When we travel to/from Florida, we seemed to settle in around 63mph. Wasn't certain how the big rigs felt about RVs doing 17mph under the speed limit.....but that is where we are comfortable and what we will do.
