A different tire question.

The tires on my 5th wheel are like new as far as wear is concerned, but they are nearing the expiration date for tire age. My current tires are Michelin XPS ribs. We are shareholders in a seaside resort that's 160 mile from our home and this is the only place we go. Maybe 4 times a year. My question is this, should I spend the money to replace my tires with another set of ribs or is there a tire that would be safe and dependable for my needs that is less costly than the ribs. Appreciate your response.

Thank You.

  • Do you "have to" tow the 5er back & forth? When I was a member at a resort type CG. We had a storage lot onsite. We kept the camper in the storage area. Only point here is-it might be consedrably cheaper to pay storage fees, than it is to tow that 300 mile round trip. Otherwise. if your tires are not really bad cracked and dry, I think I would hook up and go.
  • Sell the fiver invest in a park model might be a wise suggestion
  • I travelled 150 miles each way two years in a row on tires that were 4 & then 5 years old with many cracks in the sidewall, one tire had a crack that was an 1/8 inch wide near the rim.

The only reason I did this was I felt I needed to get more for my money out of these tires. They only had about 10,000 miles on them and lots of tread. The cracks were my fault for not covering the tires while storing the trailer in between trips.

If I had to travel further or in hot conditions, I would not have done it.
