AC Help!

In that kind of heat the fan should be set to high fan. Also make sure the filter is clean. Is it icing up? Is line voltage ample for the load? Does it normally work correctly?

I will try setting the fan to High rather than Auto but I wonder if the compressor will still short cycle.

The filters are clean.

It was icing up prior to this problem. I had to reinsert the temp sensor into the cooling fins since it either fell out of the hole or it was never inserted at the manufacturer. This fixed the icing problem, but now this weird cycling is happening.

I can check the voltage when I get home, but I do not know what would ample. Also, the bedroom AC has no problem.

Lastly, I do not know if it worked correctly before since it's brand new.

Try adjusting the thermostat to a warmer setting. Instead of 50 go to 55.

Make sure the sensor hasn't fallen out again. Mine has come loose a couple of times.

Thanks, it is set at 75 and never actually gets that cool. It never runs long enough to do an effective job of cooling the camper. I'll check the sensor and make sure it's not freezing again.

Do you have an AC vent blowing directly toward your thermostat?

good point could be satisfying the stat,causing it to short cycle like that.

Good point indeed, but no. Thermostat inside temp reads anywhere from 83 to 87 while the desired temp is set to 73.

I had the same problem last summer. I used a temp gun to make sure when it was running I had at least a 20 degree difference between outside air and what was supposed to be cooled air. It was not, took it in to the RV shop, now I have a new air conditioner. It was short cycling just as you are saying. They said that it was low on freon. Dometic approved the new air under warranty. Took about 2 hours total.

I would suspect low Freon, and a recharge port can be added and if done properly not leak (apparently a sometimes problem).

If it is a Dometic just take it back to the dealer and have it replaced. Both of mine had to be replaced and they had to do more work on one of the replacements for a rattle.
