AC Help!

I'm stumped.

The rear AC on our brand new 2017 Columbus is "short cycling" but with one caveat. In other threads I've read, this short cycling problem refers to just the compressor turning off while the fan continues to run.

However, in my case the compressor will turn on along with the fan on low for a duration of 70 seconds. Then the fan will kick up to high (since it's set on auto) for just another 70 seconds. Then the entire unit (compressor and fan) will shut off for 45 seconds. Repeat. All day. Needless to say it cannot keep up with the 95 degree heat in Gallup, NM.

Please, does anyone have any ideas?

  • I will try setting the fan to High rather than Auto but I wonder if the compressor will still short cycle.

    The filters are clean.

It was icing up prior to this problem. I had to reinsert the temp sensor into the cooling fins since it either fell out of the hole or it was never inserted at the manufacturer. This fixed the icing problem, but now this weird cycling is happening.

I can check the voltage when I get home, but I do not know what would ample. Also, the bedroom AC has no problem.

Lastly, I do not know if it worked correctly before since it's brand new.

Thanks gypsy, I'll see what keeping it on high does and go from there.
  • In that kind of heat the fan should be set to high fan. Also make sure the filter is clean. Is it icing up? Is line voltage ample for the load? Does it normally work correctly?
