Advice on truck size and other fifth wheel info new owner

My best friend ( also retired) just purchased a new 39' Montana.
He has no previous rv experience.I believe he plans to buy a new truck and is looking for some input from experienced people like all of you folks who have "been there done that". I know he has heard several ideas from sales people and a couple truck owners and is undecided if a 3/4 ton is a good choice or if a 1 ton is needed. Does not want a dual tire truck and is looking strong at a dodge 3/4 .I will help him get on line to this forum so he will be able to digest your advice and comments.
I have a motor home so I sure cannot even suggest anything other than safety first and be sure you can stop it. I know he will be making some cross country trips (midwest to west coast)

Thanks
dave
  • I would bet that he needs a one ton dual rear wheel pickup to pull that 39 footer. The weight rating of the fiver will tell the tale. A 3/4 ton pickup will not be able to handle the pin weight. He did it right get the RV and then find a pickup to pull it. Good Luck
