Air Ride Pin Box vs Air Ride 5th Wheel Hitch

Which would you buy and why? Air Ride King Pin Box (such as the Ultra-Fab TrailAir) or Air Ride 5th wheel hitch (such as the Trailer Saver)?

Obviously, if you were going to tow multiple 5ers with one tow vehicle then the hitch would probably make more sense, and if you were going to tow one trailer with multiple tow vehicles then the TrailAir would make more sense, but for purposes of this discussion, let's assume we're talking about just putting together a tow package of one vehicle and one trailer.

Also, my brands were just examples. Which brand of King Pin or Hitch Receiver would you suggest?
  • Less air pressure in a air ride hitch, bigger and more bags=softer ride with higher capacity .
Remember air guys , as you approach 80 psi you have a solid rubber 'donut' ,its no longer a air suspension.
it depends on how much you will put on it(pin weight),how much range of motion you need and how many trailers you plan on owning.
  • I chose the Hensley BD3 hitch simply because as long as I'm towing a 5'er I'll have the hitch. I won't need to remove it to the next fiver since it stays with the truck. Granted I may have to move it to the next truck but that's a fact with any hitch.
Sure you could swap an air ride pinbox but it gets more complicated than just keeping my same hitch.
As to performance I'm don't believe one is clearly more effective than the other
  • I have Both and love the combo. I also had MorRyde independent suspension added, with those three additions added my 5er just floats down the highway.
  • I am a big fan of the B&W Companion hitch and don't wish to change brands, so I would be looking at air cushioned pinboxes, don't overlook MorRyde pin boxes.
  • I will not say which is best because I have an air hitch that has been great for us since 2001 but also feel the air pin box is a good product.

  • Seems most who tow with an HDT use the Trailer Saver Air Ride hitch, primarily because of the stiffer rear suspension. For our Redwood we ordered the optional TrailAir Tri-Glide air King Pin since we already had a Reese hitch in the TV. Don't really know which is better or best. I've read where it's best to use only one or the other, but some seem to do well with both.
