Alfa Toyhouse - Questions For Current/Previous Owners

Hello, I'm new to this RV'ing thing. Currently we own a slide in truck camper, but as the family is growing and we need to haul our toys, we are considering a toy hauler.
We have an opportunity to pick up an 2006 40' Alfa Toyhouse with the barn doors at a pretty reasonable price. Would love to hear feedback from anyone who has experience with these.
Specific questions I have are how long are the removable ramps that came with this unit and does anyone know where I can find some? (Current unit is missing the ramps.) How has the unit held up through the years? Can I pull this trailer with my 99 F350 Dually 4x4 without flipping the axles?
Any other feedback would be much appreciated.
Definitely want to do my homework before taking the plunge.
Thanks Everyone.

  • Thanks for the response. It sounds like these campers were built pretty solid. We are going to pick up the unit this weekend. Not having much luck on the ramps, but that's not a huge deal. Just thought it would be nice to have the original equipment stowed away in its spot. If anyone knows of some please let me know.
Does anyone know how big the fuel station is on these things? Specifically our unit is a THF40LS.
    Thanks again.
  • Here is a site that shows some of the models and weights, that might help you in considering if your truck can handle it. Toyhouse 5er Info As I recall these units were very heavy. I can't recall a bunch of negative comments over the years, but I think if you are going to tow one you'll need an MDT.

If you hit up the Advanced Search, use "Toyhouse" and then change Date Posted to "Archive - Over 1 year ago" then have it filter to Toy Hauler forum only you'll find a bunch of older posts, within the past year only 1 post.
  • We have a 38ft Alfa 5th wheel (not a toyhauler) I can answer a couple of your questions.

The units are well built and hold up well. Our is a 1994 and has been off road many times when we were involved in off road racing for a couple of years. We have taken it on a couple of 7000 mile trips around the US. We use it at least once per month and at least twice per year for 2 to 6 week trips.

We did have to flip the axles to get it up high enough to ride level and clear the truck bed rails.

There is a group of ex-Alfa employees who run an Alfa Repair business east of Los Angeles. It's named Alfateers. They can supply parts and answer questions.
