Alignment question

Just had my fiver aligned. I'm really curious as to how far off it really was as compared to when it was new. Both axles were tracking to the left which in my opinion isn't something that would normally change. My thoughts are it was probably built that way?

  • Short of bending axels or moving spring hangers how are trailer wheels aligned? The axels sit on pin on top of the spring stacks. There is NO adjustment that can be made. There is no threaded adjustment like your TV. The trailer was either built straight, with the spring hangers in the right places, or it was not.

The quick rough check is to stick your fist between the wheels to check for a difference.

They should have given you a before and after spec sheet.
I got a before and after sheet but I wonder what it was 3 years ago when it was new. I can't imagine that it was right on the specs when manufactured as they simply hang the axles and suspension on and ship it without any checking. I've been at the Heartland factory and they just build the coach on top of a frame and suspension that is already complete and shipped to them from Lippert. There was no alignment check done anywhere in the Heartland factory. Just curious as to how well aligned it was when I took delivery.

  • I'm wondering how your front axle could have been off but not the rear if it was parallel to the front???

Salesman talk. His lips were moving.

How was it aligned? Who did it? I had my alignment checked at the Heartland Rally and was told that my front axle was 1/2 inch off and the back one was OK. Upon questioning the people more they said the back axle was parallel with the front. The measurement was done by the people selling the "Correct Tract".
I had it done at Precision Frame and Alignment in Elk River MN. They specialize in RVs and have a great reputation. My axles were both tracking to the left which I think would have been corrected with a Correct Track kit but the camber was off on both sides as well as the toe was slighty off. None of this could have been corrected with a Correct Track. I'm wondering how your front axle could have been off but not the rear if it was parallel to the front???
