Another few snipets...
Once we got our trailer parked, out went the awning and the slides. We whipped up a light lunch, ate and it was time to play.
Unfortunately the cabin didn't have enough beds for everyone (4 families), so the host starts setting up 2 and 3 person tents (4 of them ?) on the lawn. And inflating air mattresses, who knows how many. Of course the inflator doesn't work.
I sat on a lawn chair for the first hour nursing a beer while he drug this stuff out and set it up. After a while I got bored and hopped in a kayak for a paddle. So peaceful on the lake.
Sunday morning I sat and watched the same process in reverse, tearing down tents and packing them away. Folding up air mattresses. Yuck. Didn't seem like fun to me.
Saturday night after dinner it was time for the camp fire. Turns out the host knows nothing about making a fire so we sat around in a haze as the 12" stump he threw on the fire smoldered. Actually, it was less than smoldering. It slowly oxidized. It never did burn.
I offered to go get an axe from our trailer and split some wood, but he didn't want that. At one point I got up and arranged the wood so it did actually burn a bit, with a real flame and everything. But I couldn't overcome the laws of physical chemistry for long and we were sitting in the dark surrounded by a smoke cloud. It was still oxidizing the next day.
Packing up with interesting. My wife issued the "lets pack up" signal at 3PM. We pulled out of the driveway at about 3:45, dishes done, everything except the kayaks. We rolled away at 4:15 with the kayaks on the roof, having said our goodbyes.
I think the hosts spent the entire afternoon packing up. Dragging all their stuff from the cabin to their van. I think they had less fun than we did.
