Seriously, I do think it’s strange that there is no sign of the picture on the Facebook page where it supposedly originated. Nothing like a bunch of conjecture based on unsubstantiated second hand information.

LOL, what would a thread about the most hated 5th hitch be without some form of conspiracy theory? Seems like it's the only reason thats left unmentioned.

I agree, looks like both the lower and upper balls were both still attached. It simply appears that both the front supports buckled from too much weight.

They may never find out what happened here but it's an eye opener. I use the same set up so I intend to inspect it frequently for signs of failure. I don't think it's a characteristic of it or you'd hear of more incidents of similar problems.
