How about the Pullrite hitch that has about the same design?
Similar design, about the same price, etc etc. Probably couldn't go wrong with either.
If these hitches would have been around when I originally bought my first fifth wheel hitch, I would have definitely bought one. Too many advantages to not get one.
There are some on here that have OPINIONS, but thats about it . They have never had one or used one, so it's just that an opinion.
There was one that I know of that the tubes bent, there was no damage to the truck or fifth wheel is just bent. Nothing disconnected .It was the aluminum version with the gooseneck mount. Andersen has since changed the design. You can probably do a search on here ,and see for yourself.
I personally prefer the rail mount steel version, the one I have. Mine is mounted to the picture frame adapter on all four corners. Not a fan of the gooseneck connection.
A lot of speculation on the weight rating, and several arm chair engineers on here, but I would not hesitate to use mine at 20K. There is a very long thread on the Cummins forum about the Andersen. Lot of them towing big fifth wheels, and toy haulers with the Andersen. They have to be near the weight rating, and yet we have the one aluminum version with some bent tubes .
There is one member on the Cummins forum that I know of that transports fifth wheels of all sizes, and still going strong with the Andersen. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIITo be clear I would tow with the standard model as it sets on something solid that is connected to the frame. The Ultimate sets on the top corrugation of the bed so when towing heavier the bed does deflect from the fore and aft movement.

I think Cummins was referring to thread title, rather than your post.
I have no experience with the Andersen, but I'd suspect the steel version to be stronger, even though it is not rated as high. JMHO, but the Andersen on rails, solid fastened in all 4 corners S/B stronger than mounted to ball, and using truck bed for support.

Completely agree! - Cummins12V98Explorer III"The current design has no reported bend incidents."
I'm guessing they did not get the claim yet on the folding one posted not long ago on here.
Do they pay for the known bed damage/deflection that has happened when towing heavy with the Ultimate? - billy1davisExplorerThanks and are there more?

True! I was referring to how the topic is listed. "Anderson Ultimate Hitch" - gkainzExplorerI've had my Andersen Ultimate aluminum for over 4 years now (or longer?). No complaints about any use of the hitch at all, except maybe I have to get out a look one more time than standard 5er hitch, just to line up my fore and aft. I like to get it exact (no funnel). A few times I've borrowed my wife's phone and used FaceTime as a backup camera to line up the ball with the socket.
However, the only complaint I had about my previous hitch was the rails in the bed. I wanted a completely flat, smooth bed when I had the hitch removed. AU and turnover ball does exactly that. - hbillsmithExplorerFYI. If you are an Andersen Ultimate user of one of the earlier models that didn't come with the funnel style pin adapter, you should call Andersen and get the add on. I have it now and it makes line up and drop significantly easier. New buyers get it as standard. It was easy before but now it's even more easy.

HA no one else does either!!!
Never heard of a steel 20k ANDERSEN fail. Can't say the same about the original Ultimate or the supposed upgrade.
BTW the proper spelling is "ANDERSEN"

I will add I have one (the steel version) I like it. I cant say that I would use it at full capacity but for my 17K# toyhauler it is just fine.
My only dislike is it puts the pin either 4" infront or 4" aft of my gooseneck ball in the bed. When its in the 4" aft it gives me gobs of tailgate to trailer clearance...yet make the overal length of the pin box longer from pin to mitered ears. I had to raise my pin box to lower the nose. This added overall length now allowed the pin box mitered corner to contact my be rail. Just something to watch out for,
