I have the Anderson hitch and have found that it requires raising the nose of the 5vr much higher than the regular type hitches. I think this contributed to me needing to replace the motor on the land...

Doubtful, but it does require an extra 2-3 inches, that IMO is not much higher, but if that is all it takes to ruin your motor it was probably on its way out.
The motor on my landing gear is nearly 11 years old, and still going strong using the Andersen. IMO you got landing gear that was not running as smooth as it should, and just wore out that motor.
